Most of us know about the lies and deception we have been told about when it comes to health and wellness. As we all know, with diabetes and obesity on the rise in this country, we have a lot of work to do. Children as young as 10 years of age being diagnosed with diabetes, simple because their parent(s) fail to understand the importance of diet and exercise. We have become such a microwave society, where everything we need to include food and entertainment are right at our fingertips.
The deception I believe starts with us. We are lying to ourselves, if we think we can just keep doing the same things over and over and expecting different results. It starts with knowing we need to make some changes and following through with those changes.
Another deception is we have been programmed to go to the doctor as soon as we feel some kind of ailment. Only to be told we have a rare condition that you will now need to start taking medication with possible side affects, which of course leads to more medication. Lets get off the crazy train already!
People are also being told that diseases like diabetes and heart disease are hereditary. Since my parents or grandparents had this disease I am susceptible to this as well. It is safe to say our genetic make-up comes from our parents, for example our height hair color, eye color etc… However , our BMI (Body Mass Index) doesn’t have to come from genetics. Their are some genetics we can simply turn off by changing what we eat and keeping an active lifestyle i.e. diet and exercise. I am an advocate for the Plant Based Diet, because it works and its the only diet where you are not missing out on any of the vital nutrients you need.
My job as your coach is to encourage you to see the big picture, and help you to enjoy life with your family and not have to be consumed with sickness from the food you eat. Eating (organic) fruits, vegetables grains, nuts and seeds can increase your risk to live well, and enjoy life.
I do understand that some are not ready to give up meat and dairy, but even if you were to reduce your meat and dairy intake you are helping your cause. The point is to start making changes and build on it.
I will end with this. With the New Years approaching, so many people will be ready to start New Years Resolutions, like losing weight or going vegan etc..I am saying to you go further than the Resolution make a commitment to change and stick to it..
Be encourage and look forward to working with you…
